Issued to mark the fortieth anniversary of Churchill's death, this coin appeared the same year the Falkland Islands were quietly asserting their distinct political identity — a relationship with Britain that Churchill himself had no particular association with, though the Islands' defense in 1982 owed something to the postwar strategic architecture he helped shape.
