The Wombles, created by Elisabeth Beresford in 1968 after she misheard her daughter pronounce "Wimbledon Common," became a BBC stop-motion staple in the early 1970s and an unlikely vehicle for a genuine pop career — the show's theme music reached the UK singles charts multiple times. Madame Cholet, the group's cook, is a minor character by any narrative measure, which makes her inclusion here something of a collector's play: Guernsey issued the full ensemble across separate coins, ensuring completers would need every figure.
