Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse depicts a dramatic aerial composition of three Supermarine Spitfire aircraft in patrol formation, rendered in bold relief against a stylised sky field suggestive of the D-Day operations of June 1944. The bold inscription D-DAY 80 arcs prominently across the upper portion of the field, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings. The denomination 50p appears at the lower left, while the legend SPITFIRE PATROL is inscribed in large block capitals across the lower register. The overall design employs a dynamic, angular graphic style evoking wartime propaganda art and period aviation imagery.

Aanvullende informatie

Jersey has issued commemorative 50 pence pieces with some regularity, but the D-Day series carries particular local weight — the island was occupied by German forces from June 1940 until May 1945, one of the longest occupations of British territory in the war. Spitfire patrols over the Channel were among the few visible signs to islanders that the war was still being fought on their behalf.
