| Obverse description | Crowned effigy of King Charles III facing left, wearing St. Edward's Crown rendered in fine relief, with the fleur-de-lis and cross pattée clearly detailed atop the arched crown. The portrait, engraved by Martin Jennings, presents a dignified bare-shouldered bust in a naturalistic style. The circular legend reads CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 50 PENCE · 2023 · around the periphery, with the engraver's initials MJ visible in the lower right field. This is the first crowned portrait of Charles III to appear on United Kingdom coinage. |
