Obverse description At center, the Mexican national arms — an eagle perched on a cactus devouring a serpent — displayed within a hexagonal border. The inscription ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery outside the hexagon. At the bottom outside the hexagon, the weight and fineness designation 1/2 ONZA DE ORO LEY 0.999 is inscribed in the field. The overall design is rendered in a clean, medallic style typical of Mexican bullion coinage of the period.
