Struck to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Carol I's reign and Romania's 1881 elevation to a kingdom, this issue was never intended for ordinary circulation. It was produced in limited quantities as a prestige piece distributed at the jubilee exhibitions held in Bucharest that year — the same events that introduced Romania's emerging industrial ambitions to a European audience.
Fr#6 specimens turn up overwhelmingly in mint state for precisely that reason.
