Wold-Torne, primarily known as a Norwegian symbolist painter, was an unusual choice to drive a banknote design; his involvement likely reflects the nationalistic cultural mood following the dissolution pressures on the Swedish-Norwegian union, which would finalize in 1905. Pattern notes from Bradbury Wilkinson rarely surface outside institutional collections.
