Bradbury Wilkinson produced this pattern note around the turn of the century as part of a broader design competition or tender process for Norges Bank — the "Christie-issue" designation refers to the proposed series rather than a circulating type, and no examples of this design entered production. Wold-Torne, primarily known as a Norwegian symbolist painter, was an unusual choice to drive a banknote design; his involvement likely reflects the nationalistic cultural mood following the dissolution pressures on the Swedish-Norwegian union, which would finalize in 1905.
Pattern notes from Bradbury Wilkinson rarely surface outside institutional collections.
