The Christie series takes its informal name from Wilhelm Frimann Koren Christie, whose portrait anchors the design — a deliberate invocation of constitutional authority, Christie having been the leading figure at the 1814 Eidsvoll assembly that produced Norway's constitution. Oluf Wold-Torne, better known as a painter than a banknote designer, was an unusual choice for the commission, and his involvement gives the series a slightly different visual character than the engraver-led work typical of contemporary European central bank issues.
The run spans an exceptionally long production window, crossing two world wars and Norway's dissolution of its union with Sweden in 1905. Notes from the Cederholm signature period saw heavy use during the economic turbulence of the early 1920s, when Norwegian monetary policy was locked in a painful deflationary drive to restore the krone to its pre-war gold parity — a goal finally achieved in 1928, the last year of his signing tenure.
