Zur Linderung der Kleingeldnot gibt die Stadtgemeinde Stein a.D. unverzinsliche Kassenscheine im Betrage von 100.000 Kronen aus. Stein an der Donau — today merged with Krems — issued this note as part of the Austrian Notgeld wave that flooded the country between 1919 and 1921, when coin shortages made small-denomination currency practically unavailable. Municipalities, savings banks, and even individual businesses printed their own Heller notes by the thousands, and the quality varied wildly. F. Faber in nearby Krems was a local commercial printer, not a security press, which shows in the relatively modest production standards typical of provincial Austrian Notgeld.
Designer L. Kinze is otherwise obscure — no known body of work beyond a handful of regional Notgeld commissions.
