Comments

Sankt Florian am Inn is a small Upper Austrian market town, and this 50 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept through Austrian municipalities after the economic collapse following the First World War. Small-denomination coins had all but disappeared from circulation by 1920 — hoarded, melted, or simply unavailable — leaving local governments to fill the gap with their own scrip. Josef Walti's Linz printing house handled a considerable volume of this regional emergency currency, and the workmanship is accordingly competent without being elaborate.

Both signatories are identified by office rather than just name: the Bürgermeister and Vizebürgermeister of the commune. The Jaksc reference places this as variant "b" of the series, implying at least one prior issue exists.
