50 Heller Sankt Johann am Wimberg

Sankt Johann am Wimberg is a small rural commune in Upper Austria, and like hundreds of similarly sized municipalities, it issued notgeld in 1920 to address the acute small-coin shortage that had plagued Austria since the war years. The federal government had failed to produce sufficient low-denomination coinage to meet everyday transactional needs, forcing local authorities — village councils, merchants' associations, savings banks — to fill the gap themselves.

Josef Wollerstorfer's signature as sole signatory suggests a single-official authorization, typical of the smallest communes where administrative apparatus was minimal. Whether these circulated beyond the immediate parish is doubtful.
