Below the main text block, the authority line reads "Gemeinde-Vorstehung Pfarrwerfen" with the facsimile signature of the Bürgermeister. Pfarrwerfen is a small parish commune in the Salzach valley south of Salzburg, and this 50 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austria's municipalities between 1919 and 1921 — a direct consequence of the currency chaos following the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Local governments printed their own emergency fractional notes because small-denomination coinage had effectively vanished from circulation, hoarded or melted down during the war years.
R. Kiesel was a Salzburg printer responsible for a number of regional Notgeld issues across the province, with F. X. Stadler handling the design work. The "b" variant designation in the Jaksc catalogue typically signals a paper stock or color difference from the primary type.
