Opmerkingen

Melk's 50 Heller notgeld of 1920 belongs to the second wave of Austrian municipal emergency currency — issued not during the wartime shortages of 1914–1918 but in the chaotic deflationary aftermath, when coin of small denomination had effectively vanished from everyday commerce. The newly formed Republic of Austria was still stabilizing its monetary framework, and hundreds of municipalities filled the gap themselves.

The Jaksc/Pick reference JPR0605II places this in the second series for Melk, meaning the town had already issued notgeld previously and returned to the press for additional denominations or replacement stock.
