50 Heller Lunz am See

Lunz am See is a small lakeside village in Lower Austria, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities it issued its own emergency currency — Notgeld — during and after the First World War when coin shortages made small-denomination transactions nearly impossible. These local issues were authorized under wartime necessity, not monetary policy, and the Gemeinde itself bore responsibility for redemption.

E. Diemberger's credit on a village Notgeld is worth noting; locally commissioned designers were common, and the JPR reference confirms this as one of several Lunz denominations in the series.
