Gugu is a small village in what was then the Duchy of Carniola, today's Slovenia. This note is a Notgeld piece issued by the local commune — one of hundreds of Austrian municipal emergency currencies produced during the severe coin shortage of the First World War period, when even low-denomination metal coinage effectively vanished from everyday trade.
The Jaksch/Pick reference JPR0307IIa places this within the documented Slovenian-area Austrian Notgeld series. Rudolf Haider's signature as issuing authority is the only administrative trace most of these village-level notes left behind.
