Gmunden's 50 Heller Notgeld of 1920 belongs to the sprawling Austrian emergency currency phenomenon that followed the collapse of the Habsburg state — municipal and regional bodies filling the vacuum left by a central government unable to supply adequate small change. The Salzkammergut-Druckerei, a local press, handled production entirely within Gmunden itself, which was unusual enough; many comparable towns sent their Notgeld commissions to Vienna or Graz.
The JPR0240IIe designation within the Jaksc catalogue indicates this is one of several distinct type variants within the Gmunden series, differentiated by design or printing details rather than denomination alone.
