| Obverse description | Unface Kassenschein printed in dark brown on tan paper, with the title legend 'Kassenschein der Marktgemeinde Furth bei Göttweig' in Gothic blackletter across the top. Flanking a central vignette — a finely drawn street scene with a church tower and the Göttweig Abbey rising in the background — are two large ornate numeral '50' cartouches rendered in decorative interlace, each inscribed 'Heller' below. The lower portion carries the municipal guarantee text in two columns divided by the central vignette, dated 'Furth, 20. Furth bei Göttweig is a small market commune in Lower Austria, sitting directly below the Benedictine abbey of Göttweig — one of the oldest monasteries in the region. This note is a Notgeld issue, part of the massive wave of emergency municipal currency that flooded Austria between 1919 and 1922 as postwar inflation and coin shortages left local economies functionally paralyzed.
Siegfried Stoitzner was a Vienna-trained painter with genuine artistic credentials, and his involvement in Notgeld design was not unusual for the period — the genre attracted serious artists precisely because municipalities competed for collectible, visually distinctive issues. Josef Faber in Krems handled regional printing work throughout the Lower Austrian Notgeld boom.
