Haiti's Olympic commemorative program in the late 1970s was a nakedly commercial enterprise — the coins were never intended to circulate and were sold almost exclusively to foreign collectors through Franklin Mint distribution channels. The Moscow Games connection was largely incidental; dozens of nations with no meaningful Olympic presence issued similar pieces purely for the numismatic market.
KM#129 was struck in 1977–78, two years before the 1980 Games, and well before the U.S.-led boycott that would ultimately keep Haiti from competing in Moscow.
