Obverse lettering BANQUE DE FRANCE CINQUANTE FRANCS JH CABASSON INVD PANNEMAKER LIGNY SC.
Reverse description The reverse is printed in blue and composed almost entirely of an intricate oval guilloche frame with dense foliate scrollwork, mirroring the obverse composition. A compass-rose or star motif appears at the top centre within the border, and the engraver's imprint is placed at the lower margin. Two oval panels at left and right repeat the anti-counterfeiting legal warning text, while the large watermark of Mercury's head is visible at centre through the paper. The denomination and issuer name appear in mirror-image letterpress at the centre, visible as a show-through from the obverse.
