The motto DEO JUVANTE arcs around the upper field in the traditional legend of the Princes of Monaco. The denomination 50 FRANCS appears prominently in the lower portion of the field, with the word ESSAI inscribed in the lower centre, confirming the essai (pattern) status of the piece.
