Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing portrait bust of Prince Rainier III rendered in high relief against a polished field, displaying finely detailed hair combed back from the forehead. A beaded inner border frames the design. The circular legend RAINIER III PRINCE DE MONACO arcs around the upper periphery, while the engraver's signature P. TURIN and the date 1950 appear in the lower field beneath the truncation.

Reverse description A mounted knight in full armour gallops to the right, lance raised and shield displayed bearing the Grimaldi lozenge device, depicted in bold high-relief with dynamic flowing lines. The motto DEO JUVANTE arcs around the upper field in the traditional legend of the Princes of Monaco. The denomination 50 FRANCS appears prominently in the lower portion of the field, with the word ESSAI inscribed in the lower centre, confirming the essai (pattern) status of the piece. A beaded inner border encircles the entire reverse design.
