| 表面の説明 | The obverse features the coat of arms of Malta centrally positioned within a rope border, depicting two supporters flanking a quartered shield surmounted by a mural crown, with a scroll bearing the motto FIDUCIA FORTIS at the base. The legend CENTRAL BANK OF MALTA arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 50 EURO appears in the lower field. The design is executed with high relief against a mirror-polished background, characteristic of proof coinage. The date of the bank's establishment, 1968, is incorporated into the composition. |

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, died on 9 April 2021 at the age of 99 — this issue was almost certainly struck as a tribute following his death that same year. Philip held a close connection to Malta, having been stationed there with the Royal Navy between 1949 and 1951, and Princess Elizabeth joined him on the island during that posting, one of the few periods in her adult life she lived as a relatively private individual.
