Obverse description The obverse displays the papal arms of Pope Francis at centre: a cartouche-shaped shield bearing the IHS Christogram with a radiate sun, surmounted by the papal tiara and flanked by the crossed keys of Saint Peter. Two ornate papal tassels hang at either side. Along the lower arc, a decorative scroll ribbon carries the pontifical motto MISERANDO ATQUE ELIGENDO. The engraver's signatures A. NAPOLIONE and MAC. Inc. appear in the lower field. The legend FRANCISCVS P.M. ANNO IX and the Roman date MM XXI are distributed around the periphery.
