Issued as part of Monnaie de Paris's ongoing "Happy Birthday" commemorative series marking the 30th anniversary of the Fête de la Musique, a free public music festival established by Minister of Culture Jack Lang in 1982 and held annually on June 21st — the summer solstice. The festival was originally conceived by Maurice Fleuret and has since been adopted by over 120 countries. At .920 fineness rather than the more common .999 or .900, the alloy sits in an unusual middle register for French commemorative gold.
