| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse features a lively carnival scene rendered in a folk-art inspired style, designed by Karlo Gross. Three carnival mask figures are depicted across the field, with festive bunting strung between them. The legend 'Republika Hrvatska' arcs across the upper portion of the field in a whimsical, hand-drawn lettering style. The denomination '50 euro' appears in the lower right field, complementing the playful artistic composition. |

The Samobor Carnival is one of the oldest continuously held carnival celebrations in Croatia, with documented roots stretching back to 1827. It survived two world wars and Yugoslav-era political pressures that suppressed many regional folk traditions, emerging in the post-independence period as a point of deliberate cultural recovery. The Croatian National Bank has issued commemorative gold pieces tied to intangible cultural heritage with increasing regularity since the euro adoption in January 2023 — this is among the earliest such issues denominated in euros rather than kuna.
