| Beschrijving voorzijde | The national arms of Cape Verde occupy the upper central field, comprising a circular wreath of stylized agricultural and botanical elements flanking a central emblem featuring a five-pointed star above a cogwheel and open book, encircled by the legend UNIDADE TRABALHO PROGRESSO. Below the arms, the denomination 50 appears in large numerals, followed by the inscription ESCUDOS CABOVERDIANOS and the date 1984 in the lower central field. The country name REPUBLICA DE CABO VERDE is inscribed along the left and right periphery in a bold upward-reading legend. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Cape Verde's 1984 FAO issue commemorates the archipelago's agricultural development programs in the years following independence from Portugal in 1975. The FAO series issued by newly independent African states in this period were frequently struck in two versions — a base metal circulation piece and a silver proof for collector markets — with the silver revenue often directed back into the development programs the coins nominally celebrated.
KM#22a is the silver variant of the type, struck in .925 fineness for export sale rather than domestic use.
