Additional information

Cape Verde's 1984 FAO issue commemorates the archipelago's agricultural development programs in the years following independence from Portugal in 1975. The FAO series issued by newly independent African states in this period were frequently struck in two versions — a base metal circulation piece and a silver proof for collector markets — with the silver revenue often directed back into the development programs the coins nominally celebrated.

KM#22a is the silver variant of the type, struck in .925 fineness for export sale rather than domestic use.
