| Obverse description | The obverse features the official Seal of the Republic of the Marshall Islands rendered in high relief at center, depicting a frigate bird in flight above a traditional Marshallese stick chart navigation device, flanked by palm trees to the left and a traditional outrigger sailboat to the right, all beneath a radiant sun. A scroll at the base bears the word SEAL. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS arcs along the upper periphery, with the denomination $50 to the left and the date 1991 to the right, while the Marshallese national motto JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN arcs along the lower periphery.
