The Chartered Bank was already deep into merger negotiations when this note entered circulation — the 1969 union with Standard Bank of South Africa to form Standard Chartered was finalised before this series even completed its run. Notes issued under the Chartered Bank name continued circulating in Hong Kong through the early 1970s while the combined entity sorted out branding, making the issuing authority on these notes something of a transitional fiction by the time later dates were applied.
De La Rue's Hong Kong output from this period is well-documented; the watermark security on P#75 reflects the relatively conservative specification typical of the territory's commercial bank issues before the Hong Kong dollar was pegged to the US dollar in 1972.
