Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse is printed in purple and teal-green tones, centred on an intaglio vignette of a Bauhinia blakeana orchid — Hong Kong's emblematic flower — set against concentric guilloche rosette rings. To the left, a detailed vignette of the Standard Chartered Bank headquarters building in Hong Kong rises against a fine-line architectural background, with the Chinese denomination 伍拾圓 placed above it. The bank name appears in both Chinese characters (香港渣打銀行) at the top in a purple banner and in Latin script (Standard Chartered Bank) in a dark panel below the floral vignette, with the numeral '50' at upper right in green.

Opmerkingen

Standard Chartered's right to issue currency in Hong Kong dates to the colonial banking ordinances that grandfathered in note-issuing privileges for a small number of approved banks — a system that survived the 1997 handover intact, with the HKMA taking over the oversight role previously held by the British colonial administration. This series bridges that transition directly, beginning four years before handover and running well into SAR rule without design interruption.

Thomas De La Rue printed the full run in London. E. Mervyn Davies was Group Chief Executive of Standard Chartered during his signatory period on this series.
