| Obverse description | The obverse displays the official seal of the Republic of the Marshall Islands at center, depicting a traditional Marshallese stick chart in the lower field flanked by a frigate bird with outstretched wings, a sailing canoe to the right, a coconut palm to the left, and a radiant sun at top center. Crossed behind the central motif are a navigator's staff and a traditional tool. A dirigible appears in the upper left field and a fishing net in the upper right. The outer border consists of a decorative chain-link ring. The legend REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS arcs along the upper periphery, with the denomination $50 to the left and the date 1989 to the right, while the Marshallese national motto JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN curves along the lower border. The word SEAL appears in a cartouche at the base of the central device. |
