| Aversbeschreibung | The obverse displays the official seal of the Republic of the Marshall Islands at center, featuring a stylized frigate bird with spread wings above a traditional Marshallese outrigger sailing canoe and a rocket, set against a landscape with palm trees and mountains. A radiant sun appears at the top of the seal, flanked by crossed navigational sticks, with a blimp visible to the upper left and a fish trap motif to the upper right. The seal is inscribed with the word SEAL at its base. The circular outer border consists of a decorative chain-link pattern. The legend REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS arcs along the upper field, the denomination $50 appears to the left, the date 1989 to the right, and the Marshallese national motto JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN runs along the lower border. |

| Zusätzliche Informationen |
The Marshall Islands entered the commemorative coin market in 1989 with considerable aggression, issuing a wave of $50 pieces timed to major anniversaries. This one marks twenty years since Apollo 11, struck the same year NASA was celebrating the mission with renewed public programming. The Republic had only formally achieved its current political status under the Compact of Free Association with the United States in 1986, making American space achievement an unsurprising early subject.
These were sold directly to collectors through mail-order channels and saw essentially no circulation.
