| 表面の説明 | The obverse features two overlapping circular vignettes set within an octagonal field with decorative scroll ornamentation at each facet. In the upper left, a diademed and draped right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, engraved by Raphael David Maklouf with the initials IRB visible below the truncation, is set within a circular frame bearing the legend ELIZABETH II along the upper arc. To the right and extending into the lower field, a large central vignette depicts a classical helmeted female head in profile facing left — evoking the allegorical figure of Minerva as used on the original 1915 Panama-Pacific $50 commemorative — her plumed helmet rendered in fine relief. The denomination $50 appears prominently to the left in raised numerals, with the issuer name NIUE inscribed on a ribbon-like banner across the middle field. Surrounding legends read 100TH ANNIVERSARY along the right arc and COMMEMORATIVE · 2015 · along the lower arc, with the dates 1915 and 2015 flanking the central portrait. |

The original coin this restrike references — the 1915 Panama-Pacific $50 gold piece — was the largest denomination struck for any U.S. commemorative program, produced to mark the opening of the Panama Canal and the rebuilding of San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake. The official octagonal and round versions issued by the U.S. Mint sold poorly at the exposition itself, at $100 each, and thousands were melted when unsold stock was returned.
Niue's 2015 issue replicates the .900 fine gold specification of the original, a deliberate choice that distinguishes it from the .9999 fine gold common to modern commemoratives.
