Reverse description The reverse displays a faithful homage to the reverse design of the original 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition $50 gold piece, presenting a large owl standing erect in three-quarter view at center, rendered in high relief against a polished field. The owl, a symbol of wisdom associated with Minerva, perches upon a cluster of poppy seed pods and foliage, which extend across the lower portion of the field. To the left of the central motif the inscription 83.59 GRAMS appears, and to the right .900 GOLD, both in raised lettering. The peripheral legend PANAMA-PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION curves along the upper arc, while · SAN FRANCISCO · is inscribed along the lower arc, the whole framed by a beaded inner border and the decorated octagonal rim.
