Reverse description A highly detailed high-relief depiction of the west façade of Notre-Dame de Paris dominates the field, rendered with exceptional architectural precision showing the three portals, the Gallery of Kings, the central rose window, the upper arcades, and the twin towers. To the left foreground, a large sculpted gargoyle figure rests with its chin upon its hand in a contemplative pose. The background features the elaborate Gothic tracery and rose window stonework pattern that also appears on the obverse, radiating behind the cathedral, with a translucent blue enamel insert representing a stained-glass window in the upper right. The legend NOTRE-DAME appears in the lower field, with PARIS inscribed below in smaller lettering.

Additional information

Notre-Dame de Paris burned on 15 April 2019, and within months mints worldwide were producing commemorative issues capitalizing on the disaster. Niue's involvement is purely a licensing arrangement — the island nation generates significant revenue by contracting its sovereign issuing authority to third-party minting operations, most commonly the New Zealand Mint. The actual design, production, and distribution of this kilo piece had nothing to do with the Pacific territory beyond the legal right to strike coinage in its name.

The restoration fund officially opened the same month the fire was extinguished, with French law passed in July 2019 governing its administration.
