| Beschrijving keerzijde | A richly colored and detailed depiction of the Takamikura imperial throne, the ceremonial seat used during Japanese enthronement rites, rendered in polychrome enamel at the center of the field. A magnificent ho-o (Japanese phoenix) with colorful plumage spreads its wings across the upper left, its elaborate tail feathers sweeping across the upper field in raised relief. A radiant sunburst emblem, set with a small gemstone, adorns the front of the throne. Decorative lacquer-style panels with painted motifs appear on the throne's base, and stylized Japanese calligraphic elements and a chrysanthemum-like floral device are engraved in the lower field. The curved legend 60th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION OF THE EMPEROR arcs along the upper rim, with the fineness mark .9999 at the right. |
