50 Dollars Blue and red

British Honduras issued paper currency under direct government authority rather than through a chartered bank — unusual for a British colony of its size at the time. The 1895 series, of which P#12 is the highest denomination, was printed by De La Rue under what were likely very small press runs; a $50 note in a colony with limited commercial activity and a predominantly laboring economy would have circulated almost exclusively among merchants, plantation operators, and crown officials.

Surviving examples are genuinely rare. High-denomination colonial issues of this period were rarely saved — they were used, redeemed, and destroyed.
