Andorra had no formal coinage tradition of its own until the late twentieth century — the co-principality functioned for centuries on a patchwork of French and Spanish currency circulating by custom rather than legal tender law. This 1960 gold issue was produced not for circulation but for the collector market, part of an early wave of Andorran numismatic pieces that predated the principality's later official series by decades. The X# prefix in the reference confirms its status outside mainstream national coinage, catalogued by Krause under their "Unusual World Coins" classification.
