Kuwait's 50th anniversary of the dinar fell in 2011, marking half a century since the currency was introduced in 1961 following independence from Britain — the dinar replacing the Gulf rupee at a rate that immediately established it as one of the region's stronger units. This gilt variant, distinguished from the standard silver issue by KM#41, was produced in strictly limited numbers as a prestige release through the Central Bank directly.
At five troy ounces of fine silver, the specification places it firmly in the bullion-medal category rather than anything intended for circulation.
