| Beschrijving voorzijde | Facing bust portrait of King Abdullah II bin Hussein within a circular frame, depicted in civilian dress in a formal, dignified style. The Arabic legend encircling the portrait reads the full royal title and name of the king, referencing both the Hijri year AH1420 and the Gregorian year AD1999. An additional Arabic inscription at the base commemorates the occasion of the accession to the throne. The portrait is rendered in a realistic, medallic style typical of Jordanian commemorative coinage. |

Issued to mark Abdullah II's accession following the death of King Hussein in February 1999, this coin was struck in the same year Hussein quietly amended his succession decision — reinstating Abdullah over his brother Hamzah just days before his own death in Bethesda, Maryland. The reversal ended a three-year period during which Hamzah had been named crown prince, a designation Hussein had made under pressure from his American medical team's timeline.
