Additional information

Issued to mark Abdullah II's accession following the death of King Hussein in February 1999, this coin was struck in the same year Hussein quietly amended his succession decision — reinstating Abdullah over his brother Hamzah just days before his own death in Bethesda, Maryland. The reversal ended a three-year period during which Hamzah had been named crown prince, a designation Hussein had made under pressure from his American medical team's timeline.
