Obverse description At center, a perched falcon displayed in profile faces left, standing atop an ornamental pedestal, symbolizing the national emblem. To the left, a traditional Bedouin tent is depicted in fine detail, while to the right a classic Arabian dhow under sail is rendered in relief, with an open oyster shell containing pearls beside it. The composition evokes the three pillars of Kuwait's heritage — the desert, the sea, and pearl diving. The entire central scene is enclosed within a crenellated decorative border, and a curved Arabic commemorative legend arcs along the lower portion of the field.

Additional information

Kuwait's 25th National Day in 1986 marked a quarter-century since independence from Britain in June 1961 — an independence that came just days before Iraq's Abdul Karim Qassim publicly claimed Kuwait as Iraqi territory, nearly triggering an immediate military conflict. British troops returned within weeks at Kuwait's request, and the crisis was only defused through Arab League intervention. This commemorative was struck against that complicated backdrop of hard-won sovereignty, four years before the Iraqi invasion of 1990 would make the founding moment feel even more freighted.
