正面描述 Central depiction of the national coat of arms of El Salvador, featuring an equilateral triangle enclosing five volcanic peaks above a sea, flanked by five national flags and framed by two laurel branches tied at the base. A scroll at the bottom of the triangle bears the national motto. The date 1971 appears in the exergue below the shield, with a small five-pointed star beneath it. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE EL SALVADOR AMERICA CENTRAL runs along the periphery, separated from the inner design by a dentilated border.

附加信息

Pattern issues from El Salvador in the early 1970s were typically produced to test proposed denominations or designs before an official minting decision was reached — and in many cases, the decision was never made. A 50 Colones circulating coin was never adopted, making this piece a dead-end proposal rather than a precursor to anything. Gold-plated brass was a common choice for presentation patterns of this period, allowing official samples to circulate among decision-makers with the visual weight of a gold coin at a fraction of the cost.
