Fiji has served as a nominally issuing authority for commemorative collector coins since the late 20th century — pieces that bear Fijian denomination but are produced entirely for the international numismatic market and never intended for domestic circulation. This Vega issue is one of a multipart series tied to the 30th anniversary of Street Fighter II, originally released by Capcom in 1991, with individual coins assigned to each playable fighter. The licensing arrangement ran through the Perth Mint.
