| Obverse description | The face is printed in green and presents a horizontal row of five vignettes, each reproducing the contemporaneous 10-cent U.S. postage stamp with a portrait of George Washington in an oval frame encircled by stars, the denomination TEN CENTS inscribed below each stamp. The value numeral 50 appears at both upper corners within decorative cartouches, and the central lower border carries a shield monogram US flanked by curved inscriptions. The note was produced by the National Bank Note Company, whose imprint appears at the lower left margin. |

| Reverse description | The back is printed in black on pale paper and centered on a large scallop-bordered guilloche panel enclosing the bold numeral 50 in the middle. Curved and italic letterpressed inscriptions radiate around the central numeral within the panel, stating the note's legal-tender conditions and the authorizing legislation. The overall design is austere and text-heavy, consistent with early Fractional Currency printing practice. |
