| 背面描述 | Central denomination numeral '50' in large raised figures, surmounted by a St. Edward's Crown and flanked by two stylized palm fronds. Below the numeral, the word CENTS appears in Latin script, followed by the denomination rendered in Sinhala and Tamil scripts respectively. The issuer name CEYLON arcs along the lower periphery, with the date divided to either side of the crown at the top. A beaded border frames the entire design. |

Ceylon's nickel-brass coinage of this period reflects the awkward monetary transition following independence in 1948, when the island retained British-style denominations while gradually asserting its own issuing identity. The composition shift away from silver — which had defined Ceylonese fractional coinage for decades — was driven largely by postwar metal economics, not any domestic policy preference.
George VI died in February 1952, making pieces dated before that year struck under a living monarch and those after purely posthumous issues running on existing authority.
