| Beschrijving keerzijde | The central field bears the denomination '50' in large numerals above the inscription 'CENTS' and 'CANADA' in two lines, with the date below separated by a short rule, all enclosed within a wreath of maple leaves tied at the base with a flowing ribbon bow. A St. Edward's Crown surmounts the wreath at the top of the design, symbolising royal authority. The maple leaf wreath, a distinctly Canadian national emblem, is rendered in high relief with naturalistic detail on each lobe and stem. The legend and date are positioned within the wreath's interior field, with no additional peripheral inscription. A denticular border runs along the inner rim, consistent with the obverse treatment. |

The shift to .800 fine silver in 1920 — down from the .925 sterling standard used since Confederation — was a direct fiscal response to the spike in silver prices during and after World War I. The same reduction was applied simultaneously across the dime, quarter, and fifty-cent denominations. Canada was not alone; Britain made comparable adjustments to its own coinage that same year.
The 1931 and 1932 dates are notably scarce in circulation grades, reflecting depressed mint output during the early Depression years. The 1936 issue closed the series before George V's death in January of that year.
