| Obverse description | Left-facing crowned and draped bust of King George V, engraved by Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennal, occupies the central field. The king is depicted wearing the Imperial State Crown and military uniform with decorative collar and epaulettes rendered in fine detail. A continuous Latin legend surrounds the effigy along the coin's periphery, reading GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: REX ET IND:IMP:, abbreviated for 'George V, by the Grace of God, King and Emperor of India.' The portrait is executed in the refined academic style characteristic of Edwardian and early Georgian coinage, with strong relief modelling of the facial features. A fine denticular border frames the design at the rim. |
