| 裏面の説明 | The denomination 50 CENTS is prominently displayed in the central field, with the word CANADA appearing above and the date below. The central device is flanked by two upswept maple boughs tied at the base, encircling the face value. A St. Edward's Crown surmounts the composition at the top of the design, lending a regal character to the reverse. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border, with all inscriptions rendered in serif capital letters. |

Canada's 50-cent piece saw its silver standard quietly reduced after this series ended — the 1920s brought a drop to .800 fine — making these earlier strikes the last Canadian half-dollars produced to the sterling silver standard inherited from Victorian-era coinage legislation. The 1914–1918 wartime years suppressed mintages sharply, with the 1914 issue in particular produced in small quantities that have challenged collectors ever since.
The 1916-C issue, struck at the Ottawa mint but bearing a "C" mintmark, is the key date of the run.
